The Bhakti Center is a community run center.  We encourage our community to feel more a part of their spiritual home by taking ownership and responsibility to help run our various programs and initiatives.  Service is an integral part of our spiritual practice, and we have a variety of service opportunities according to your availabilities and interest.  You can be part of any of the teams below, or if there is an area of service that you don’t see, let us know what your skills and interests are so we can work with you and provide appropriate service opportunities accordingly.  You can volunteer as much or as little according to your capacity.  For regular volunteers serving 4 hours per week or more, you will receive 10% off at our Amrita boutique.

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION

Part-time volunteer (5-10 hours per week);

The Bhakti Center:

The Bhakti Center is a spiritual cultural center in New York City’s Lower East Side with a talented volunteer and paid staff devoted to sharing the experience of self-transformation through the timeless culture and practices of Bhakti-yoga.

Job Summary:

The Volunteer Coordinator works with management team members and managers to understand volunteer needs in the organization, setting up systems for training, recruiting volunteers and ensuring that volunteer experiences are smooth and effective.  


Responsibilities:

  • Keep updated and organized records of all volunteer needs and service positions. 
  • Design and execute effective communication strategies for recruiting volunteers.
  • Work with management team members and managers to design and offer proper incentives for volunteers. This includes but is not limited to free yoga passes, discounts on general programming, Amrita gift cards, etc.
  • Work with managers to create effective systems of training for each volunteer position.
  • Work with managers to establish the mood of how to engage volunteers in an encouraging manner.   This includes appreciation for volunteers and helping them feel valued.
  • Conduct feedback and evaluations to monitor the experience of both volunteers and TBC staff who are engaging volunteers and implement collected feedback to improve our volunteer experience 
  • Build and foster relationships with volunteers to ensure an experience of personal care. 


Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Organized and able to self manage.
  • Proactive in problem solving and able to troubleshoot when necessary.
  • Knowledge of bhakti and yoga culture is required.
  • Clean living and healthy lifestyle required.
  • Transparent with communication and able to ask for help when needed. 
  • Experience working with and managing volunteers, interns, and community members. 
  • Comfortable working with spreadsheets and google calendar.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
