This is a beginner’s training for anyone looking to learn simple yet foundational Mridanga practices to play in kirtan. The course will cover fundamentals of hand practice (hasta sadhana) as well as simple kirtan beats.
Mridanga is not an easy instrument to learn for most people, and will require commitment & dedication to really develop your skills! That being said, Mridanga is an incredibly beautiful instrument and even a little bit of experience playing is very exciting.
*a mridanga is required to participate in this course.
Anuj has been raised around the culture of kirtan and bhakti-yoga practically from birth – he was born and raised in the New York and New Jersey community and started to play mridanga at the tender age of 7 years old. He has studied and learned the art of mridanga & kirtan from various teachers over the years, including renowned mridanga teacher, Bablu Mahasaya. Mridanga has been a deeply significant and meaningful part of his spiritual connection and he is excited to see how your relationship with Sri Mridanga expands as you learn this powerful instrument.
