Vāsudeva Das, originally from the Netherlands, spent his youth creating art. While attending the prestigious Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in 1997, he decided to pursue a monastic lifestyle in the tradition of Bhakti-yoga. Having served as a monk for sixteen years,  in ashrams in Europe, India and New York, he recently married. He presently lives in New York City, where he serves as the head-priest at The Bhakti Center and teaches classes on Sanskrit and Vedic wisdom.

The Gītā Condensed is a two-day workshop accompanying Vāsudeva Das’ upcoming art exhibition From Darkness to Light (opening October 13 at The Bhakti Center). It is based on his new book The Gītā Condensed: An Illustrated Introduction to the Bhagavad-gītā.

This class serves as an introduction to the teachings of the Bhagavad-gītā, India’s most celebrated wisdom text. Vāsudeva Das will elucidate essential themes of the Bhagavad-gitā’s first six chapters, with reference to his paintings and the commentaries of respected teachers in the Bhakti tradition, such as Sridhar Swami (13th Century), Visvanath Chakravarti (17th Century), and A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (20th Century)
