date – saturday, february 24

time – 6:00pm – 9:00pm

location – the bhakti center / temple 3e

Thursday, March 1st marks the 532nd anniversary of the birth of Sri Chaitanya, the avatar and mystic saint who pioneered devotional yoga (bhakti) in sixteenth-century India and began the practice of sacred chanting (kirtan) that has now spread around the world. The Bhakti Center will celebrate the occasion on Saturday, February 24th, with the 6th Annual Roots of Kiran Festival, with talks about understanding Sri Chaitanya’s life, mood and mission as well as insights on the meaning of Kirtan.

Our speaker for the evening will be Jaya Jagannath Das. Special guest musicians will be announced soon.  A special feature of the evening will be a beautiful temple ceremony – the 6th Annual Coconut Abishek, where the divine forms of Sri Caitanya and Nityananda will be bathed with the water of hundreds of fresh coconuts. All guests will have the opportunity to give a donation for a coconut, bring it to the altar to bathe Sri Chaitanya and receive in return a coconut full of maha prasadam coconut water charnamrita (the sanctified water which has just been offered). It is an enchanting ceremony to watch and participate in as beautiful kirtan is sung by everyone.   The evening concludes with a delicious feast served free of charge.
