overview

Explore the philosophy of bhakti, which is the spiritual practice of awakening our potential to love in this weekly in-person gathering. Our time together will include uplifting teachings, captivating wisdom, and heartwarming stories.  Topics are aimed at helping us see ourselves, the world around us, and the Divine with a realistic spiritual vision and a higher level of consciousness. We especially like to include practical examples on how to implement ancient teachings into life in the real world.

This program is especially inviting those who are new or have no prior knowledge of bhakti. We will have music meditation to open the heart and clear the mind, a short thematic talk, and lots of time for questions and discussion.

Manohara Das, a graduate from Chapman University, CA, has immersed himself in the science of bhakti-yoga for the last five years. This year he completed (with honors) the Bhakti Sastri course in Mayapur, India, a five-month intensive study of classical bhakti-yoga texts. Back in the USA, Manohara now serves at the Bhakti Center full-time, giving personal and communal tutelage on the science of bhakti-yoga.

By balancing a demanding professional career with steady, humble service to his spiritual master, Godruma offers a glimpse into the realities of an urban Bhakti yogi. As an engaging Kirtan musician and multi-instrumentalist, proficient in ancient Sanskrit language, and a seasoned teacher of Bhakti Yoga, he brings a well-rounded traditional approach to the team. Being an avid follower of Yoga philosophy, Godruma holds a degree in Vedic Studies (Bhakti Sastri) and is a graduate of the NJ Institute of Technology. Now based in NYC, he looks forward to helping you master the Bhakti scriptures and attain perfection in mantra meditation.

Nityananda Chandra grew up in Honolulu and through a local friend, at the age of 14, found himself diving into the world of Bhakti. He committed himself to a vegetarian life completely free from drugs. At the age of 20 he entered into a life of monasticism that brought him all over the country and overseas. Eventually he settled with a wonderful wife and 3 kids in Dallas, Texas. He served for 15 years as community director and a teacher and guide for the Dallas Krishna temple. He is thrilled to have new opportunities for service in New York with the Bhakti Center.
