overview

Yoga therapy is a specialized approach to yoga that uses tailored practices to address the specific physical, mental, and emotional health challenges of an individual. It helps improve mobility, reduce pain, and support recovery from injuries or surgeries. It is among the most effective complementary therapies and works well for many chronic conditions that persist despite conventional medical treatment.

what to expect

Your first session will include a review of your completed health intake form (which will be sent to you once you book a session) and may involve assessments for physical range of motion/strength, posture, breath, mindset, and stress level depending on your health issue.

  • Initial check in: a conversation to assess your current physical, emotional, and mental state. This helps the yoga therapist tailor the practice to meet you where you are that day.
  • Movement: yoga postures and/or flowing movements. Often practiced using props-blocks, ropes, straps, chairs and bolster as per your needs and mobility to optimise the benefits of the practice. It is generally a gentler practice, but can include more challenging movements when necessary and depending on your goals.
  • Pranayama: breathing practices. Your yoga therapist will choose breathing practices that align with your energy and physicality.
  • Meditation: guided, silent incorporating mudras (hand gestures), progressive muscle relaxation, yoga nidra and more
  • Home yoga therapy plan: you and your yoga therapist co-create a sustainable and realistic
plan for you to do on your own time at home or office.
