How to Chaturanga

Learning to REALLY do Chattarunga Dandasana!!

This event has already passed. Please check out our Yoga Schedule and all our other offerings

In a typical vinyasa style yoga class, the word chattarunga is often spoken. Or perhaps the student is just told to “flow” – but the movement from down dog to up dog includes a very intricate movement — Chattarunga Dandasana!!  This pose is an arm balance, a core exercise, and can build overall strength when done correctly, when not done correctly, it can be injurious. In this workshop we will break down the mechanics of this pose on each participant, and find the ways that each person can work on this essential pose.

Jamuna Jaya Devi Dasi is one of the core teachers at The Bhakti Center. A 500 Hour Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance, she teaches both classes as well as Yoga Teacher Trainings at The Bhakti Center, Yoga Renew, Three Birds Yoga, and Yogamaya. Her training has emphasized the precision of Iyengar Yoga, even as she incorporates the movement of the vinyasa style. Jamuna likes to “break it down” – so that the students come away with knowledge about the pose, and about their bodies, all while finding time to breathe and laugh!
