I first heard about the Bhakti Center while listening to an interview Divya Alter gave on a podcast. The very little I knew about bhakti yoga came from reading The Journey Within written by Radhanath Swami, and funnily enough I had no idea of its connections to the Bhakti Center. All I knew was that it piqued my interest to learn more about bhakti yoga, so I registered for the first in-person program I could squeeze into my schedule, which happened to be Soul Talks. To this day, I still remember walking in through the front doors and feeling instantly at ease. Every time I step over the threshold I always feel welcomed and cared for, the way one would feel upon returning home to family after being away for too long. I started becoming a regular at Soul Talks and ventured on to other programs: Bhakti immersions, Thursday Night Kirtan, festivals, and community groups. When an opportunity to volunteer at the front desk came up I snatched it just so I could spend more time in my happy place. I found parts of myself light up in certain interests and allowed it to lead me to join the Bhakti Center’s Immersive Kirtan Training and also the Fall India Pilgrimage. Along the way, I heard about their ashram training program and was anxiously waiting for a spot to open up. A spot eventually did open up just as I returned to New York from the Fall India Pilgrimage. I got off a plane from India and headed straight to the Bhakti Center to join their Ashram Training Program. Being able to immerse myself so deeply allowed me to find even more parts of myself light up from being in the presence of the Bhakti Center’s awe-inspiring community. Melissa - "During the difficult times of the pandemic, I felt stressed as a healthcare worker and turned to spirituality. I was spiritually curious for as long as I can remember and have been reading various spiritual texts for many years. I began practicing Yoga and reading about Yoga philosophy, before discovering the Bhakti Center via Instagram. The Bhakti Center resonated with me, and I found the practitioners that I encountered to be very knowledgeable, sincere and inspiring, while also still remaining sympathetic to everyone’s different life circumstances. Bindya, UK - I believe in "signs" and whilst out shopping one day, I saw a group of devotees singing and handing out leaflets. I could feel the genuine connectedness and warmth from my brief encounter, and they kindly gifted me a copy of the Bhagavad Gita As It Is. I suppose this was the catalyst for further inquiry. I found the Bhakti Centre through some online searching during the pandemic, and even though I was based in the UK, I thought I would give one of their online classes a try. Joe - "Breaking down my ego allowed me to realize there was much more to offer in this world rather than receiving. This realization led me to discovering books and podcasts (“Wisdom of the Sages” podcast and Radhanath Swami's book “The Journey Home”) that opened my eyes to the Bhakti path. Esther Sharp - "I began exploring Yoga, meditation, asana and various other spiritual practices, but over the years felt that none of these things were really hitting the spot. I first came across the Bhakti Center because I was intrigued by what was on offer and had heard it was such a wonderful centre. I was feeling isolated as our local temple had been closed during the pandemic, and so I enrolled on some online workshops with the Bhakti Center. I was looking for connection and had a desire to study and learn more. Finding Krishna and Srila Prabhupada has been the biggest turning point in my life. Elizabeth - "When I gained the awareness of Bhakti, my heart really began to open. My best friend joined Raghunath Prabhu on a Yoga retreat in India, and returned with a brand new perspective. Hearing about her experience and recordings of Kirtan, I was intrigued to learn more. Fast forward several months, I eventually discovered the Bhakti Center. During the pandemic I was able to connect remotely with the Bhakti Center and had the opportunity to attend classes with Susan Hu and Yogi Charu as well as lectures from other trusted teachers.
