What is awakening of the self?
Awakening the Self is a 6 part journey of self-exploration and transformation designed to bring the timeless teachings of yoga and bhakti into modern life through exploring selected passages of sacred yoga texts like the Bhagavad-gita, the Upanishads, and the yoga-sutras.
These passages will come alive for you through wisdom talks, guided meditations, breakout sessions, and contemplations. When these timeless yogic insights are assimilated, they are sure to transform our experience of life, and reshape our perceptions, thoughts, words and actions. Our ability to adjust our external reality is limited, but our ability to transform our internal reality is a door wide open.
Join Sri Prahlada das as he guides you on your journey to live with greater wisdom, joy, and fulfillment.
Who is your teacher?
Sri Prahlada is an Australian bhakti-yoga practitioner and teacher, famous for his kirtan, who recently moved to New York. Sri Prahlada was practically born into bhakti and been teaching and singing across the globe since childhood. He developed his initial fascination with bhakti when attending school at ashrams in Australia and India.
At age 12 Sri Prahlada led an Australian campaign to free Krishna devotees persecuted in the USSR. A natural musical talent, Sri Prahlada recorded a song requesting Gorbachev to Free the Soviet Hare Krishnas from religious persecution that gained widespread media attention. He was offered a contract with global record label EMI to release the song as a single, which was followed by an album titled “Through the Eyes of a Child”. In 1988 Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawk delivered a letter from Sri Prahlada to Soviet President Michael Gorbachev. Within days of Hawk’s visit Krishna devotees were freed.
From age 15 onwards for about 18 years Sri Prahlada was mentored by the renowned bhakti-yoga master Indradyumna Swami, traveling as his assistant, secretary, and lead kirtan singer.
Sri Prahlada has a PhD from the University of Technology Sydney. He has also authored and co-authored several books with academic publishers. Some of his recent publications explore leadership insights from the Bhagavad Gita.
Sri Prahlada has performed kirtan in traditional and contemporary styles before audiences of tens of thousands, including on the main stage at the annual Polish Woodstock festival. Along with the likes of Krishna Das and Jai Uttal, he features in Steven Rosen’s book ‘The Yoga of Kirtan’ which contains in-depth interviews with 20 western kirtan artists. Since 2020 he has been visiting Cyprus, where he has helped to form and continues to support a small but growing community of bhakti-yogis.
