bhakti tradition

date – every sunday (beginning july 2)

time – 11:00am – 12:30pm (followed by feast)

location – the bhakti center / temple room 3e

Bhagavat-sravana is a weekly immersion for Bhakti enthusiasts who desire to commune with the sacred texts of the tradition. Together, we are led through a reading and discussion of the writings of Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada including Bhagavad-gita, Srimad Bhagavatam, Sri Isopanishad, Sri Caitanya Caritamrita and other important texts. Throughout the year we group the classes around themes. It’s a simple and informal way to deepen one’s learning of Bhakti-yoga wisdom in a group setting.

The one and a half hour gathering includes…
– reciting and memorizing beautiful Sanskrit verses
– reading and discussing translations and commentaries
– sharing reflections
– singing bhajanas and kirtan
– shared vegetarian meal at the end

By regular participation one can deepen their understanding of Bhakti philosophy, purify their mind and heart, and deepen relationships on the basis of spiritual wisdom.

Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the Personality of Godhead, who is the Paramātmā [Supersoul] in everyone’s heart and the benefactor of the truthful devotee, cleanses desire for material enjoyment from the heart of the devotee who has developed the urge to hear His messages, which are in themselves virtuous when properly heard and chanted. – Srimad Bhagavatam 1.2.17
