Spiritual Recharge is a regular Sunday event that serves as an opportunity for like-minded seekers to come together for a dose of positive sights, sounds, discussion, and community. Join us on June 4th for a special event featuring an interview and book signing with Syamasundar Das who has recently released his long-awaiting memoir of his adventures with Srila Prabhupada entitled Chasing Rhinos With The Swami.

Shyamasundar Das (Sam Speerstra) was one of Srila Prabhupada’s earliest disciples, helping him shape the Krishna Consciousness Movement in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco, with the Beatles in London, and then, as the Srila Prabhupada’s personal secretary, in India, Russia, and all over the globe. Nothing was impossible for Srila Prabhupada, and he instilled this idea in the hearts of his first disciples: Go for the rhino!

Chasing Rhinos With The Swami is the intimate account of Srila Prabhupada’s amazing adventures, describing in loving detail the seven years Shyamasundar spent at his side. It’s an adventure book, fast-moving, filled with the philosophy, fun, spontaneity and magic that distinguished Prabhupad’s special journey among us.

“Writing “Chasing Rhinos With The Swami” was a labor of intense love. Not that it started out that way. I thought I could knock out seven years of memories in about six weeks, ten at the most. But then Srila Prabhupad came into my life again, called me to his room, made me laugh, began those fun, intense conversations—and soon he accompanied my every waking moment.” – Shyamasundar Das
