Join us for a unique opportunity to meet and hear from the filmmakers of Hare Krishna! The Mantra, the Movement and the Swami who started it all. The film is a documentary on the life of Srila Prabhupada –the 70-year-old Indian Swami who arrived in America with nothing in the turbulent 1960s, and went on to ignite the worldwide cultural revolution of spiritual consciousness known as the Hare Krishna movement. Using never-before-seen archival verite, Prabhupada’s own recorded words, and interviews with his early followers, the film takes the audience behind-the-scenes of a cultural movement born in the artistic and intellectual scene of New York’s Bowery, the hippie mecca of Haight Ashbury, and the Beatle mania of London, to meet the Swami who started it all.

The documentary premiered at the Illuminate Film Festival in Sedona Arizona on June 3rd, winning the award for Best Film. It makes it’s New York premier at the Village East Cinema on June 16, running through June 22nd.

Panelist for the evening include John Griesser (Director and Producer), Jean Griesser (Co-director and Screenwriter), Lauren Ross (Co-director, Producer and Editor) and Jessica Heinrich (Producer). The discussion will be moderated by Mark De Gasperi, a writer, script doctor, and professional story analyst who has worked for Sony Pictures Entertainment, Tribeca Productions, Paramount Pictures, and Odyssey Networks and teaches Advanced Screenwriting at NYU.
